(january twenty something)

Interim 2011 is over! I am currently on break and enjoying it. I head to Blissfield for a few days tomorrow, which should be a good time.

Stuff that's happened since my last post:

-I've been using tumblr for my more creative endeavors. Please visit it here and check out my art, photos, and other fun stuff.

-Luke & I went to The Bitter End for coffee, and sat out in the snow for a bit. It was chilly, but fun!

-We got to see Pulp Fiction in theater!

-I baked cupcakes for Cupcake Friday last week.

-The Academy Award Nominations have been announced! At the time announced I had seen 11 of the nominated films...I'm so pumped, OSCAR SEASON IS MY FAVORITE TIME OF THE YEAR! (other than summer, obviously.)
[Audrey Hepburn]

-The last day of Interim I had a grand night playing games with my good old friends Jake, Luke, Dan, Jon, & Alyson.

-My roomie Christie is back in the country! She just spent interim adventuring around Panama.

-I had to bid farewell to both Ben and Mary for an entire semester. Goodbyes are not so fun.

-Luke has been one feisty fella these days, but it's ok cuz I like him.
[please note the peanut butter he smeared on my face.]

Also, Luke has a job and a place to live in Grand Rapids! Hoorah!

Now I just need a little rest & relaxation to take on my next semester come Monday.

(my january friend)

Week 2 of Interim 2011 has come and gone. It feels like January is flying by! Here are some highlights from the past week:

-Our house had a Bang! party. We dressed up like we were from the Wild West and had a night of cards and cocktails.

[Carley, Mary, & Me in our Wild West attire.]

[Mitchell and Jake came as "Indians" - not too sure if that's politically correct.]

-Friday was another successful CUPCAKE FRIDAY! I baked an army of cupcakes for my class. Not only that, but my housemate Carley also brought CUPCAKE FRIDAY to her class this week... awesome.

-Luke was out of town this weekend, but luckily I had Netflix to keep me company.
I finally got around to watching Australian film Mary and Max. Adam Elliot's film uses clay-animation to tell a beautiful, raw story about two pen pals: an 8-year-old Australian girl and a 44-year-old obese New Yorker. Don't let the animation factor fool you - this is not a "kids movie". There are elements of it that are honest and consequently dark. It addresses real life issues that both kids and adults struggle with on a daily basis such as loneliness, death, and mental illness. I highly recommend Mary and Max, and hope to someday make a film as emotionally riveting and visually stimulating.

-Getting to watch noir films from the 1940s & 1950s everyday in my interim class is such a lovely experience. One can never fall too in love with Humphrey Bogart or get too sick of being seduced by the sexy, dangerous, independent, mentally unstable femme fatales. From watching all of these films, I've been inspired to dress like a lady of that day.

[Carley has been letting me borrow her curlers for experimenting.]

[My first attempt - not exactly an Ingrid Bergman, Lauren Bacall, or Barbara Stanwyck - but fun all the same.]

-Last night Mary, Ben, and I went bar hopping in Eastown. It was a lot of fun going out with them. They are both going to be gone next semester - Mary to York and Ben to DC. I'm going to miss them a lot!

[At The Meanwhile.]

Yup, this past week was swell. I'm more than ready for Week 3 - bring it on!

(it's been one week)

I would like to report that the first week of Interim 2011 has gone swimmingly!

Here's what's been going on:

-I (well, Luke technically) cut off 10 inches of my hair to donate to Locks of Love.

[Before.]

[After.]

-I am in a splendid class with splendid people studying film noir.
[That means lots of crime, beautiful women, and dark plots.]

-I had my first successful CUPCAKE FRIDAY!
[Cupcake Fridays are where I bring in cupcakes to share with my whole class on Fridays.]

-Luke is beginning to adapt to the cold weather tundra climate of Grand Rapids. I really like having him here.

We also had yet another successful Rocky Horror Picture Show this weekend. Hoorah!

Here goes week two...

(so this is the new year)

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a splendid end to their 2010, and are ready for all the adventures that 2011 will bring.

I had a lovely time skiing up north with my family this past week. Here are some of my favorite photos to document the trip:

[we voted that Hunter had the best i.d. picture on his season pass]

[Alex & I love Crystal Mountain!]

[My parents, about to go down the slopes]

[Hunter & Me]

[I celebrated my 22nd birthday. Man am I getting old...]

[I did a lot of baking this past week]

[making cookies with Grandma]

[A few of the cookies I decorated - one even has a pipe!]

[we lit sparklers for New Year's Eve]

[Sparklers with Grandma]

[eating cookies, sipping wine...]

[Hunter trying to beat me up.]

All in all it was a fantastic trip.

Luke and I head to Grand Rapids tomorrow - wish us luck!
