(i will stay, i will stay, i will stay)
I’m not getting kicked out of college!
To some people, the impending doom of me being dismissed from Calvin College is news. To others, this is a very familiar notion. Regardless, this is what has happened recently:
On January 7 I received an email from the Academic Review Committee that explained that I would be dismissed from Calvin at the end of the month. This is because my academic record does not meet the minimum standards of the college. Fortunately, as academic dismissal is not a decision they make lightly, I was offered a chance to appeal.
On January 14 I appeared to the Academic Review Committee to present my case. I had to provide a written appeal as well as explain in person my academic performance, any extenuating circumstances, and my particular plan for academic success. They then informed me that they would email me the following day to notify me of their decision.
The next day I received the email that said I would not be dismissed from Calvin College, but that I would be put on very strict academic probation. Of course I was instantly washed over with a wave of relief. I recognize that I am very blessed and very fortunate to have this opportunity.
I confided in very few people while I was going through these challenges, mostly for the sake of privacy and the uncertainty of the outcome. To the ones who supported me through it, I really owe you a huge thanks. I’m very gracious that I had you being there for me, loving me, praying for me, and talking some sense into me. Dealing with a freaking out Amy Martin in the middle of the night can never be very fun. Thank you!
In other news, Interim is going very well. I’ve learned so much from my Interim class, and it both challenges and inspires me. I can’t wait to share more about it!
